We are looking for
Are you the enthusiastic and entrepreneurial Business Development Manager and you are capable of operating at the interface between industry and societal needs for innovations in the area of the circular plastics economy and leading research capabilities.
In this role you will be responsible for acquiring and initiating new projects to further grow the project portfolio sustainably in primarily the plastics, packaging and recycling industry. Preferably you do have a relevant network in this global market segment.
Wageningen Food & Biobased Research develops insights and technologies that support industries to create innovative solutions and governments to develop policies for a healthier, more sustainable, and prosperous world. The business unit Biobased Products has identified recycling as a strategic growth initiative. In a circular economy, recycling is a core issue with major societal and technological challenges. Recycling is of both biobased and fossil based materials such as plastics, textiles etc is subject of our research.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial business development manager to connect the world-leading knowledge of our 250 colleagues of Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, working in bio-refinery, chain design and systems analysis, sustainable chemistry, bioconversion, and material science to the needs of our customers by making valuable project propositions.
In this role:
  • You continuously uncover market insights and technology needs in the market segment plastics, packaging and recycling;
  • Manage the sales pipeline: create, prioritise, manage and follow-up leads with industrial customers;
  • Jointly with our experts, you translate societal and business needs into propositions and research proposals that expand our sustainable project portfolio;
  • You build consortia of various international customers to work collectively on large, game changing, research projects to allow partners to accelerate innovation and product development and get access to the latest technologies;
  • You are able to reach agreement on commercial terms and conclude agreements in close collaboration with the legal and financial experts of Wageningen Food & Biobased Research;
  • You maintain and expand our international business network in the Agro B2B industry, and build and expand the brand name of WUR in general and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research in particular to create a market leading position in selected areas.

You will join the commercial team of our business unit Biobased Products and as such will work together with our three program managers and other business development managers. You will report directly to the Business Unit Manager. If you want to contribute to the transition to a circular and biobased economy, we are looking for you.

We ask

  • You have at least 3 years of sales, business development or project acquisition experience in an R&D environment and experience with decision making processes in industrial settings;
  • You are a dedicated, inspiring entrepreneur with strong networking skills and a high energy level;
  • A well-developed organizational awareness;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • You have obtained a university degree (or equivalent), preferably in industrial engineering and management, chemical engineering, process and separation technology or material and polymer science;
  • A relevant national and international business network preferably in the plastics, packaging and recycling industry, agrifood, and/or chemical industry;
  • You have excellent writing and speaking skills in English and the ability to learn Dutch.

For this challenging role you will be rewarded with a market-based salary for a 36 hours full time working week. Salary is based on the Central Labour Agreement of the Foundation Wageningen Research and depends on your experience and qualifications with a maximum salary of € 5,608.-. gross per month (based on 36 hrs). An appointment of 4 working days per week is negotiable and you also have the opportunity to work 40 hours a week.
In addition we offer:
  • 8% holiday allowance;
  • A fixed-year allowance of 3%;
